About the Rabbi

Our Rabbi is Rabbi Michael Rosenfeld. Here is his story.

I was born and raised in the United States. I spent most of my formative years in Columbia, Missouri (located in the middle of the country). I had many interests such as: cycling, rock climbing, baseball and rock climbing. While in grammar school, I spun the records at a local radio station. I was a music buff and a lover of nature. I have fond memories of long road trips to the national parks and hiking with my family.

I was not raised in an Orthodox home. (Quite the opposite, my father is a Reform Rabbi with a shul in New Jersey.).
While traveling to Israel at the age of 17, I began to contemplate my Jewish identity. For the first time in my life, I realized that Judaism can provide my life with meaning. At Friday Night prayer service at the Western Wall, my mind raced with thoughts of increasing my involvement in Jewish practice. Indeed, while at university, I became more involved with the campus Hillel and Chabad. It was amidst a very liberal college campus that I started to experience Shabbat and Kosher food.

Since 2000, I studied in yeshivot in Jerusalem and Gush Etzion. Most recently, I achieved smicha from Ha’mivtar. I also studied in a variety of practical rabbinic training programmes to prepare for ministering at KSDS.
