The Jewish Association of Cultural Societies was founded in 1978 – we are celebrating our Silver Jubilee this year – by Mrs. Annette Pearlman and the late Rev. Saul Amias M.B.E.. It was started with the purpose of exercising the minds of retired and semi-retired men and women and providing the facilities to allow them to meet in a social atmosphere and enjoy a varied and stimulating programme.
The first Branch was started in Edgware and proved so successful that other Branches quickly followed. There are now 28 Branches covering an area from Westcliff in the East, to Bournemouth in the South, to Cardiff in the West.
The Weybridge Branch, the nearest to Kingston, began in 1987 and has a membership of about 75. We meet every Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 pm at the North-West Surrey Synagogue, Horvath Place, Rosslyn Park, Weybridge with refreshment and the chance of a natter with other members. We provide a varied programme of talks, discussions, Quizzes, and Outings to places of interest and theatres. In addition, JACS organise an annual short-stay at Bournemouth and visits to Israel.
We are always delighted to welcome new members. If you would like to pay us a visit, please ring our Chairman, Mr. Ted Newton (01932 865559), or Secretary, or Mr. Ralph Simons (8224 1772)
